Challenge yourself

Grefillinn is a Gravel Race through Borgarfjörður and Kaldadalur which is located just 103 km (62 mi) from the capital area of Iceland. However, don’t you let that short distance fool you. With roughly 2.300 m (7,500 ft) elevation gain the course will take you to remote highlands, countryside roads and water crossings.

Highlands

Gravel as far as you can see with spectacular mountain views and glaciers.

Countryside

Endless gravel countryside roads with twists, turns, water crossings and tough climbs.

Challenge

Challenge yourself and make your dreams of Icelandic gravel riding come true!

The Race

The race starts and finishes at Logaland, our info center.

The race takes you through Þverárhlíð and Norðurárdalur, two different but beautiful agriculturual valleys filled with grass fields, salmon rivers and sheep. The climb out of Norðurárdalur is called Grjótháls, with a great view.

After going through Þverárhlíð again, next up is the valley Hvítársíða, with its glacier river and probably headwind. The Kaldidalur highland road is next. It can only be described as magnificent, set in a desolate post-glacial surroundings. The road is a bit rougher than up till now. The highest point of Kaldidalur is at approx 700 m (2,300 ft) and the view is great in all directions.

The glacier Eiríksjökull can be seen from there as well as the former glacier Ok. The descend down to the long valley Lundarreykjadalur (remember right turn after the descend) is a fun ride. After that is only a short loop through the valley Flókidalur and only a few pedal strokes from there to Logaland – where you started earlier that morning.

This is easily moving to my top three post-gravel race party scenes, up there with hanging out among giraffes in Kenya at the Migration Gravel Race and hippie dancing in the park after Sprit World 100 in Patagonia, Arizona." - Velonews, 2022
